If you want the local church to engage in apologetics, then you have to make it both affordable and accessible. That has been my experience over the past several years. If I tell the average Christian layman that he should attend a particular apologetics conference or purchase a DVD set from one of the various apologetics ministries, I usually get some sort of half-hearted promise that he will "look into it." But if I invite that same Christian layman to a free Saturday conference, then he becomes very interested.
This year I had the opportunity to attend the second, annual SALT conference in Montgomery, AL. The SALT conference is a free, weekend apologetics conference hosted by Tactical Faith and the First Baptist Church of Montgomery. I invited several other men in my church to come with me, and for one reason or another, none of them were able to make it, but they were all genuinely excited about the prospect. More importantly, however, I can guarantee that each of them will approach me today at church and ask me to share what I learned. There's just something about a ministry that actually sacrifices in order to deliver a message that makes people want to pay attention.
Thankfully, Tactical Faith carries that philosophy beyond just the attendance at the conference itself. They have such an overwhelming desire to help laymen grow in their ability to defend the faith that they have made all of the videos of the lectures freely available through YouTube. So, for all those that I invited to come with me, and for those who wish that they had been invited as well, here's what you missed:
For those that are not familiar with YouTube's playlist controls: You can click on the word PLAYLIST in the upper left corner of the video to get a drop down list of all the lectures from this year's SALT conference as well as those from the Defend the Faith conference that was held in New Orleans earlier this month and the 2013 SALT conference.
