I was recently asked to draft a religious accommodation request (regarding the covid vaccines) that plainly outlines the reasons for the accommodation while also informing employers of their responsibility to make reasonable accommodations for religious beliefs. After submitting my draft to a lawyer for review and receiving his approval, I decided to share it here in case anyone else would like to use it. This letter is to inform you that the Covid-19 Vaccine Policy which will be/was implemented on _________, 20___ conflicts with my sincerely held religious beliefs.
All of the Covid-19 vaccines currently available used cell lines from murdered children (Code of Alabama § 13A-6-1(3) & 13A-6-2) in either the testing or development phase. As a Christian, I am firmly convinced that the Bible teaches that murder is a sin (Exodus 20:13), that knowingly consenting to murder is also a sin (Hosea 6:8-9), and that knowingly benefiting from murder is the same as consenting to that act (Proverbs 1:10-19). Consequently, I believe that taking any of the currently available Covid-19 vaccines with knowledge of their use of cell lines from murdered children would be a sin. I am requesting accommodation of this belief in compliance with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and Title 29 § 1605.2 of the Code of Federal Regulations. I am willing to consider any reasonable accommodation which would remove the conflict between my employment requirements and my religious beliefs. (Baker v. The Home Depot, EEOC v. Ilana of Hungary, Inc.) It is my opinion that allowing me to continue working under the requirements that were in place prior to the implementation of the new Covid-19 Vaccine Policy would resolve this conflict. Thank you for your timely consideration of this issue.
