Play By The Rules

Every game has a set of rules that govern how the gameplay proceeds.

In Super Mario Bros., for example, there is a rule that jumping on a Goomba will kill it and a corresponding rule that if a Goomba runs into you it will kill you. You will have a very difficult time trying to win in Super Mario Bros. by running into Goombas, and your game will proceed much smoother if you try to win by jumping on the Goombas instead. You could argue that those who choose the latter are more privileged than those who choose the former, but that is solely the fault of those who choose to ignore the instruction book and attempt to play by their own rules.

Life is very similar to a game in that respect. In life, there are certain rules that govern how the world operates, and those who live according to the rules will have more success in life than those who choose to defy the rules. We even have an instruction book in the Bible to tell us what some of those rules are just like the instruction book that is packaged with most games. Those who choose to obey the rules are only privileged in that they reap the benefits of their good decisions. For example, those who choose to plant corn in the spring will be more privileged during harvest than those who choose to plant corn in the winter. If you want to succeed in a game, you have to play according to the rules set by the game's creator, and success in life follows the same principle.

This idea that life has a set of rules which were put in place by God and conveyed to man through the pages of the Bible is one of the foundational concepts of the American Revolution. This was the philosophical source for statements like: "Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God." This concept was taught by the philosophers who had the most influence on colonial culture, and the founding fathers all adhered to that idea. The American Revolution can be contrasted with the French Revolution in which the people completely rejected the idea that God had established certain rules for life and attempted to live according to their own set of rules. The American revolution produced one of the greatest and most prosperous nations in history while the French Revolution produced the guillotine and the Reign of Terror. The Americans were only more privileged than the French in the sense that they reaped greater benefits because they chose to follow the rules.

Those who are upset about the "privilege" enjoyed by heterosexual individuals simply do not like the rules which were established by the Creator of life, and they are angry that those who choose to defy those rules do not reap the same benefits as those who choose to follow them. Their objection to the rules does nothing to change the fact that the rules are there, and no amount of decrying the "privilege" of those who choose to follow God's rules of sexuality will change the fact that those who do not follow God's rules will fail.
